Description

Salted Caramel Apple Pie Bars are a delightful twist on the classic apple pie. These bars feature a buttery crust, tender apple filling, luscious caramel drizzle, and a sprinkle of sea salt for the perfect balance of sweet and salty.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup (220 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 medium apples (about 4 cups), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons (15 g) cornstarch
  • 1 cup (240 ml) caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Press mixture into baking dish and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  5. In another bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, and a pinch of cinnamon.
  6. Spread apple mixture evenly over baked crust.
  7. Drizzle caramel sauce generously over apples.
  8. Crumble reserved crust mixture on top of apples.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until topping is golden and apples are tender.
  10. Cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
  11. Drizzle with extra caramel sauce and sprinkle with sea salt before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, use a mix of tart and sweet apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji. Allow bars to cool before slicing for clean cuts.
