Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ½ cup milk or yogurt
  • 2 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a loaf or bundt pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in orange zest and vanilla extract.
  6. Alternately fold in the dry ingredients and orange juice with milk/yogurt until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in poppy seeds evenly throughout the batter.
  8. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Optional: Top with an orange glaze or cream cheese frosting for extra flavor.

Notes

For best flavor, use freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly grated zest. Toasting or soaking the poppy seeds enhances their nutty crunch. Store cake wrapped tightly for up to 3 days or freeze slices for longer storage.
