Description
A warm and crusty loaf filled with gooey mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and fresh basil—Savory Caprese Bread blends rustic baking with vibrant Mediterranean flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 rustic ciabatta or sourdough loaf
- 1½ cups shredded fresh mozzarella
- 2 medium ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced or ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Balsamic glaze (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Slice the loaf in half lengthwise. If using dough, shape and let it rise as needed.
- Drizzle olive oil over the cut side of the bread and brush with garlic if using.
- Layer tomato slices, sprinkle mozzarella, and evenly place basil leaves.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs like oregano or chili flakes. Close or leave open-faced.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let cool slightly and drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
Use slightly stale bread for better structure. Drain tomatoes to avoid sogginess, and add fresh basil post-bake to preserve flavor.
