Description

A warm and crusty loaf filled with gooey mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and fresh basil—Savory Caprese Bread blends rustic baking with vibrant Mediterranean flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 rustic ciabatta or sourdough loaf
  • 1½ cups shredded fresh mozzarella
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced or ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Balsamic glaze (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the loaf in half lengthwise. If using dough, shape and let it rise as needed.
  3. Drizzle olive oil over the cut side of the bread and brush with garlic if using.
  4. Layer tomato slices, sprinkle mozzarella, and evenly place basil leaves.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs like oregano or chili flakes. Close or leave open-faced.
  6. Bake for 15–20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let cool slightly and drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for better structure. Drain tomatoes to avoid sogginess, and add fresh basil post-bake to preserve flavor.
